Powered by the 4MOTION® All-Wheel Drive system and outfitted with a turbocharged 2.0 TSI® 4-cylinder engine, producing 328 horsepower and up to 295 lb-ft of torque. It’ll make you want to roar.
Transmission
A sleek 7-speed DSG® dual-clutch transmission delivers the speed of the fastest shifts possible through smooth automatic gear changes. It can also be controlled manually via large, Golf R-specific steering wheel-mounted shift paddles.
4MOTION® with torque vectoring
The Golf R comes equipped with 4MOTION® All-Wheel Drive for sure-footed traction in all kinds of conditions. Featuring torque vectoring rear differential, the Golf R can distribute the torque variably between the rear wheels, sending up to 100% of available power to the wheel on the outside of the bend to offer a more agile handling response.
Drift mode
The R torque vectoring rear differential is the key to the track-only “Drift” mode,* changing the Golf R’s stability control parameters to ESC Sport while the torque vectoring system kicks off the drift by sending all available rear torque to the outside wheel.

Special mode
The Golf R’s “Special” driving profile was inspired by testing on Germany’s legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife racing circuit, a harrowing circuit that pushes cars to their limits and is nicknamed “The Green Hell.” When engaged, the powertrain and other elements are put in their most aggressive settings. What are the performance specs for Golf R?
The Golf R clocks 315 hp and a substantial 280 lb-ft of torque with the 6-speed manual transmission, or 295lb-ft with the available 7-speed DSG® transmission.
How much cargo space are we talking?
Don’t underestimate the utility of the compact size: It has 564 litres of cargo space, which jumps to 977 with the rear seats folded. That’s easily enough space for a weekend grocery run, home reno materials, travel gear, and whatever else you might need.
Does Golf R have enough room for a family?

What’s the standard wheel size for Golf R?
The 2025 Golf R comes standard with a 19″ Warmenau wheel and 235/35 R19 summer tires.* The Golf R Black Edition also comes with a 19″ Black Warmenau wheel.
*The use of winter tires is mandatory in some provinces. Proper winter or all season tires are recommended for wet, snowy, or icy conditions.
Do all Golf R trims have a sunroof?
With or without — the choice is yours. For those who want to let the sunshine in, a power sunroof is available on the Golf R, and comes standard on the Black Edition.
